(Initial 6 month contract, potentially permanent)
Rhotic Media, the financial news and content agency, is seeking a conscientious, motivated, and inquisitive individual to join its team as an editorial assistant.
The company has seen rapid growth in its first three years, driven by its business model of writing for banks, tech firms, fund groups, publishers and corporations.
In any one week, our team produces the broadest possible range of written content, ranging from blogs and features to in-depth annual reports. Our team has a well-rounded understanding of the global business landscape, and the experience to recognise topical themes and unravel technical jargon. We are now looking to share that knowledge with an ambitious individual who is keen to take their first steps into financial journalism.
WHAT WE OFFER
Working with qualified journalists you will play a key role in supporting the editorial teams by conducting basic research duties, taking minutes at team meetings, transcribing recordings, and maintaining the in-house editorial database.
In your initial weeks, you will be taught the basics of different financial products and learn how the world’s largest companies do business. As you begin to learn more about the financial ecosystem and our business, you will work with qualified journalists to learn the basics of how to structure news stories and features.
As a company, we are proud to foster a corporate culture that supports and looks after its people.
While the company usually offers the opportunity to work in a bricks and mortar office, we are currently insisting that all staff work from home. We provide laptops and mobile phones to assist with remote working.
Rhotic Media’s pension scheme is with the National Employment Savings Trust. Staff are eligible for the pension scheme from their first day. We also offer a confidential employee assistance scheme – offering private consultations with lawyers, medical professionals, and financial advisers – that is funded by us.
Rhotic Media has also invested in support from a specialist employment agency to ensure that the successful candidate will be trained on workplace fundamentals to improve IT and communication skills, problem solving and to develop a better understanding of organisational behaviour.
Initially the role is a fixed term contract for six months, working 25 hours per week, funded through the UK Government Kickstart Scheme. However, we are looking for a candidate who wants to make an impression. For the right individual, there is the opportunity to secure a full time, permanent contract at the end of the Kickstart period.
WHO WE WANT
As a signatory to the Social Mobility Pledge, we are not prescriptive about educational background, but we would anticipate that the right candidate would have passes in GCSE Maths and English at Level 4 / Grade C and above.
We would expect all applicants to be competent in MS Word, to be able to use email without difficulty, and be confident using internet browsers such as Google Chrome. Ideally, we are looking for someone who has an interest in business and finance and looking for a career in financial journalism or financial marketing.
We may consider candidates who don’t fit this brief entirely, but we ask that those who do not give us convincing reasons to be considered.

All interested candidates must be claiming Universal Credit to apply for this position.
