Our history

2018
Rhotic Media was founded on 6 April 2018 by Joe McGrath after two decades working in financial services content.
A few months after launch, he was joined by former colleague Elizabeth (Liz) Pfeuti, now our Chief Operating Officer. Later that year, she would be named WTW’s Investment Journalist of the Year, winning the first of many awards by the Rhotic team.

2019
We began our paid apprenticeship scheme, which allows individuals to take their first step into industry without having to sacrifice a higher education qualification.
Liz Pfeuti won four Journalist of the Year awards at State Street’s annual press awards.

2020
Our revenue exceeded £1 million for the first time as the business went from strength to strength.

2021
Our digital marketer degree apprentice partnership with London South Bank University (LSBU) began, while our trainee sales managers work with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).

2022
We won our first major award for social mobility, the John Caudwell Blaze Your Own Trail Award at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, which recognised our outreach programmes and support for young people.
Our revenue exceeded £1.5 million for the first time as we continued to evolve and build our client base, with over 20 staff now employed.

2023
In April we launched Financial Promoter (FP), the UK’s first dedicated title for marketing professionals in financial services, as a quarterly print title, followed by the launch of its sister website in May. FP won Best Trade Magazine at the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals' MarCom Awards.
We won Best Start Up at the UK Social Mobility Awards.

2024
Our first Financial Promoter Live! conference was held on 18 March, around 200 delegates enjoying a day of insights and debates from key industry figures. FP Live! won Best Specialist Event at the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals' MarCom Awards.
On 7 November we held the inaugural Financial Promoter awards, an evening that celebrated the efforts of marketing and communications teams across capital markets, personal finance and insurance across 21 categories.
We won Outreach Campaign of the Year at the UK Content Awards.

2025
In February we launched Capital Pioneer, a quarterly magazine aimed at embracing the digital assets revolution, followed by a daily news-led website and newsletter in March.
Our second FP Live! conference on 31 March built on the previous year’s success, with more stages, more speakers, more sponsors and double the number of delegates (more than 420).
In May we were named the UK’s Best Small Employer of Apprentices at the 2025 UK Apprentice Guide Awards, and Joe McGrath was named Anglia Ruskin University’s Entrepreneur of the Year.
